Over the last few years, phone plans have come down substantially in price. Unfortunately, many continue to stick with expensive service plans and upgrade to the latest, greatest phones as soon as humanly possible.
Two things on this front. First, take five minutes today to review your phone bill and shop other carriers. You’ll likely find that if you haven’t made any changes in the last year or two, better pricing options exist.
If you find this to be the case, set aside some time this week (or schedule a reminder for when your contract expires) to switch plans and/or carriers. Many report saving anywhere from $10 to $80 per month - that’s $120 to $960 per year!
Secondly, consider how frequently you’re replacing/upgrading your phone. Just like computers, mobile phones are in the mature stage of development. The next generation phone is only marginally better than the prior year’s model.
By waiting an extra year to replace or upgrade, you’ll be able to pocket around $10 to $40 per month per phone - $120 to $480 per year...per phone.
Here are some other ways to extend the life of your mobile phone and help you complete your Mason Jar Vacation Challenge:
- Purchase and use a sturdy case
- Regularly delete unused/lightly used apps
- Automatically backup photos and videos with iCloud/Google Photos to free up storage space
- Buy more memory than you think you’ll need or use
